Most People Lead Complicated Lives...
When problems and difficulties affect your ability to cope, professional counseling can make a difference. The Referral and Information Service of the New York State Society for Clinical Social Work will help you find a therapist with the specialized skills to meet your needs. Or, we can help you find a resource in your community that will be of help in your need.
Call Us. We're Here. And We Listen...
When you phone our 800 number, you will receive a prompt call-back from one of our clinical social workers. All calls are confidential. First we listen to your concerns and ask for basic information. We will respond to your inquiries with respect and tact. Then, if you would like, we will match you with a therapist whose expertise and experience
fit your specific needs.
We will try to find a suitable location and convenient time for your appointment in a private office setting.
You will also be able to talk about financial matters such as affordable fees, our-of-pocket
payment, and mental health insurance. Our many therapists include members of
most managed care panels. If you prefer a therapist who is a member of your plan, we
will make every effort to refer you to one.
We Offer More Than Therapy...
In addition to providing a more personal and reliable way to find a suitable therapist, the Referral and Information Service can supply other kinds of information. We can suggest appropriate community resources, answer your questions about therapy and talk with you about how to choose a therapist.
Experience and Professionalism....
All members of the RIS panel have a master's degree from a graduate school of social work and several years of Further training. This includes direct internship experience working with people in settings such as community mental health clinics, schools, hospitals, and family service agencies. Panel clinicians are certified by New York
State and are members of the New York State Society for Clinical Social Work (established in 1969). To develop expertise, many members have also studied at professional institutes and postgraduate programs.
